Brand Advisory

The structure behind every Brand Advisory

Without criteria, ambition is just a gamble.

The CEO of a company that wants to grow needs certainties to rely on. Everyone wants to expand. Few succeed.

The secret of that success lies in the method.

This is what Bliss Advisory is for: analysing the terrain, identifying priorities and guiding every significant decision before it is made.

DISCOVER ADVISORY

Blissionary

Advisory: what it means

/əd’vaɪzəri/

n. Qualified decision support. The strategic process that analyses scenarios, identifies priorities and sets the criteria that guide the brand’s choices. It works with the board and management, advising which direction appears most sound, where to invest, what to avoid and how to interpret results and weaknesses. The structure that keeps those criteria applicable over time belongs to Governance. The structure that turns them into reality belongs to Operations.

Investing without a plan

Many companies invest in marketing, communications and development without a shared direction. According to McKinsey, in a single year the share of CEOs who consider the role of marketing clear fell from 90% to 70%.

Not because the campaigns are wrong. Simply, nobody ever defined who they were meant to reach.

Behind the success

Many agencies start from execution. We came from there too, which is why we know what happens when direction is missing. That is why Advisory, Governance and Operations coexist here in a single model.

Consistent from start to finish.

Non-negotiable criteria

Clear criteria. Defined boundaries. Shared direction. In our view, Advisory's role is to identify priorities and guide decisions, before any other activity.

Only then will Governance take charge of safeguarding the strategy, and Operations of executing it. An integrated system, under a single, always consistent direction.

Audit and Brand Strategy

Two sides of the same coin

These two activities are the core of Advisory, and neither can exist without the other. Here is why.

Audit
BlissBrand Strategy

audit

The Audit is a structured snapshot of the present. We analyse the brand, the market, the competitive landscape and the dynamics that affect its growth. Not to accumulate data, but to distinguish what hinders development from what can drive it.

Markets are studied. Risk is anticipated.

Brand Strategy

From data to direction. Once the Audit has established what the brand is, the Brand Strategy defines the positioning, values and criteria needed to achieve the set objectives.

A decision is not right because someone prefers it. It is right when it delivers what the brand has decided to be worth.

Success Stories: The Results Achieved for Our Clients

Companies turn to a strategic brand assessment for different reasons. The brand works but nobody knows why. The business is growing fast and the criteria are not keeping pace. There is something important to be done, and a clear direction is needed before doing it. The reasons are many, but the scope is one.

Würth Italia had built a solid digital ecosystem in the professional market, but with untapped potential for scale. The strategic advisory conducted a strategic audit of the brand’s presence on digital channels, benchmarking it against Würth’s more mature markets (Germany and Spain). This identified the structural gaps limiting its growth and defined the priorities for action.

Doreca managed a dual audience: the Ho.Re.Ca. professionals it supplied as a distributor, and the end consumers it served in its own stores. The strategic decisions built a digital presence able to speak to both without inconsistency. Two distinct registers, one system. The physical expansion was then developed on that structure, with five new centres opened in nine months.

Who needs a strategic brand direction?

For every investment in Governance and Operations to move in the right direction, strategic decisions must be guided before they are made. That is why Advisory is particularly suited to:

Every new market, every new agency, every new hire reinterprets the brand in its own way. Advisory analyses what works, identifies why, and defines the criteria to replicate it deliberately rather than by chance.

For years it worked, but nobody could say why. Now something has changed. Advisory turns what works into a documented, transferable system.

A divestment. An acquisition. A new market. Every moment of discontinuity requires structure before it turns into disorder.

The market has moved; the positioning has not. Competitors communicate more clearly, own strategic keywords and are cited by AI systems. The brand exists but does not stand out. Advisory maps the competitive territory, identifies positioning gaps and builds the criteria to regain ground through targeted interventions.

The problem wasn’t the agency. It was the lack of criteria to evaluate it. Advisory builds them before the next one arrives.

Beyond strategic oversight

The brand analysed. The positioning clarified. The strategy delivered.
Strategic decisions conclude with setting the direction. Yet some organisations need support to keep it alive: ongoing dialogue before the decisions that matter are taken.

For them, there is Executive Advisory: a steady presence alongside the board and management, to assess investments, new markets, partnerships, repositionings and initiatives. The best way never to lose sight of your objectives, decision after decision.

The Comparison: Execution agencies vs an integrated firm

On one side, those who deliver a strategy and leave; on the other, a model that carries it through to execution. The difference lies in what remains after delivery.

Criterion Standard approach Bliss
Starting point
Standard approach The client's brief. The strategy is built on what the company says it is.

Bliss Operational deliverables the team uses every day, without having to wait for us.
Longevity of value

Bliss The system is designed to last. The criteria formulated for evaluating the brand are then overseen and updated by Governance over time.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Brand Advisory

Not necessarily, but almost always. The Audit provides the diagnosis on which the direction is built. In rare cases a brand already has a clear, documented diagnosis. In most cases, the reality that emerges from the Audit differs from what management expected. That difference changes the strategy substantially.

The Audit takes eight weeks. The following phases, from the Brand Platform to delivery, take around twelve weeks. The full programme runs over roughly five months; from there, the work of Governance begins. The exact scope is defined at the briefing stage.

No, because it sits upstream of operational agencies: it defines the criteria they work by. In many cases existing agencies benefit from a system of clear criteria, as it reduces brief iterations, speeds up approvals and improves the quality of output.

There are five signs. Different people in the company describe the brand differently. Every change of agency brings a reinterpretation of the identity. Brand decisions always require management approval. The positioning does not hold up against competitors. The brand does not work without the founder’s presence.

The defined direction is handed over to management as a system of criteria and priorities. From that point on, Governance translates it into operating rules and oversees it over time. But the handover is not the end of the journey: it is the start of the next one. The one that belongs to Governance.

Yes. The Brand Platform includes the semantic signals that generative AI systems use to describe and cite the brand. A brand with clear, documented positioning is cited consistently by ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI. One without is described in a fragmented way.

It makes most sense right now. Building the direction before launch means not having to correct it while already in the market. Companies that build their strategy after they have already started communicating end up managing inconsistencies accumulated over time. The earlier the direction is set, the less it costs to maintain.

The metrics operate on three levels. At decision-making level: clarity of priorities, fewer iterations on briefs and less reliance on management for every single choice. At market level: perceived consistency across channels, positioning against competitors. At asset level: how brand value evolves in company valuations. The metrics are defined before work begins.

The programme has a defined duration, with precise phases and deliverables, and the system delivered remains the property of the brand. The Audit is self-contained: it gives you a diagnosis and a map of interventions, and you are free to carry them out with us, with your in-house team or with other partners. For those who want ongoing support there is Executive Advisory, separate from the Audit and Brand Strategy programme.

On the contrary: it is SMEs that need it most. A large company can afford to get a fifty-thousand-euro campaign wrong; an SME cannot. The Audit exists to give certainty to those with focused resources, showing clearly which interventions will deliver the highest return (ROI) and the right order of priority for tackling them.
