La guida completa per Agenzie e Brand agli Ad Age Creativity Awards, in questo nuovo numero della rubrica Gold Brief.
The Ad Age Awards are known for rewarding not so much the most creative campaigns as those that managed to change something. To have a real impact. A concrete one.
Among international marketing awards, it is the one that best balances creative quality and business effectiveness. This is what guides every judging criterion of the Ad Age Creativity Awards.
These are the international awards of the leading publication for Anglo-Saxon marketing. Unlike festivals such as Cannes Lions (where cultural impact carries decisive weight), at the Ad Age awards beautiful work that has produced no results does not compete. Conversely, work with strong numbers and a precise narrative makes for an entry that is hard to ignore.
For those who treat an advertising award as a positioning tool for their communication, Ad Age is THE award.
Appearing on Ad Age’s A-List is a signal of remarkable positioning.
The juries are made up of creative directors, strategists, marketers, producers and creative technologists. For agencies and brands seeking to build authority in the English-speaking market, it is the marketing award carrying the most weight after Cannes Lions. In the landscape of English-speaking digital awards, a place on Ad Age’s A-List inevitably changes how the market perceives you.
In this new article in the Gold Brief series, we examine the award’s sixteen categories, the judging criteria, the logic behind an effective entry and the timeline for planning participation in the 2027 edition. Digital awards and brand categories cover the full spectrum of contemporary communication.
Gold Brief is the category of the Bliss blog for those who want to understand how recognition in marketing really works. In this column you will find practical guides to the international awards that matter (creativity, strategy, performance, design, SEO, innovation and much more), with everything you need to enter. Because the perfect brief is not written in a day: if anything, it is built every day.
The Structure of the Awards: Two Areas, Sixteen Categories
The Ad Age Creativity Awards are organised into two distinct areas: WORK, dedicated to campaigns and creative projects, and CREATIVE MARKETING, dedicated to brand performance and market transformations. Entries are submitted online in English via the official portal.
The same project can be entered in several categories at once, provided it is genuinely relevant to the criteria of each. In any structured digital contest, category relevance counts as much as the quality of the work.
WORK Area: The Ten Creative Categories
| Category | What It Rewards | Main Criterion |
| Best Body of Work for a Single Client | Sustained quality of work for a single client | Strategic consistency, brand growth, narrative continuity |
| Best B2B Campaign | Best business-to-business campaign | Strategic effectiveness, storytelling, B2B KPIs |
| Best Use of AI | Innovative use of AI in creative processes | Genuine integration, workflow, distinctive results |
| Branded Entertainment / Content Campaign | High-engagement narrative content | Storytelling, engagement, entertainment value |
| Creative Data Campaign of the Year | Creative use of data and insight | Data storytelling, strategic innovation, KPIs |
| Film / TV / Video of the Year | Best video content | Storytelling, direction, emotional impact |

Best Body of Work for a Single Client
The most strategic category for agencies with an ongoing relationship with a major client.
It rewards not a single campaign but the overall quality of the work delivered over the year, assessing strategic consistency, growth of the client’s brand, narrative continuity and the ability to build a recognisable creative identity across multiple projects.
The entry requires a strategic description of the work carried out for the client, the results achieved in terms of awareness, engagement, growth and business impact, examples of the campaigns delivered with visual materials, and the case study video. The judges assess creative quality but also the continuity of the agency-client relationship.
An agency that has built a structured relationship and produced consistent work over time competes better than one that brings a single exceptional campaign with no context.
Best B2B Campaign
The category that has seen the most significant growth in recent editions, ever since the market realised that B2B communication does not have to be corporate and anonymous to be effective. It rewards business-to-business campaigns that combine strategy, creativity and concrete results, with strong storytelling and approaches that go beyond traditional institutional communication.
The entry requires a description of the campaign and its B2B context, the strategic objectives, the insight and creative approach, and the results with specific KPIs such as lead generation, conversions, pipeline, engagement and ROI. Judges primarily assess strategic effectiveness, creative quality and originality of language within the B2B space.
Best Use of AI
As discussed in the article on artificial intelligence and marketing awards, this is the category with the most open field and the most rapidly evolving criteria. Ad Age rewards the ability to integrate technology into the creative or strategic process to deliver distinctive results.
The entry must document the workflow, the processes and technologies used, the project’s innovative value, and the creative and business results with concrete KPIs.
Best ROI: Work that Works
The category closest to the logic of the AME Awards: it rewards the work that generated the most effective and measurable business results. Judges focus above all on the robustness of the data presented, the clarity of the KPIs and the campaign’s ability to generate real value for the client’s business. For advisory and strategic advisory firms that work on communications governance, it is the category most closely aligned with their positioning.
CREATIVE MARKETING Area: The Six Brand Categories
| Category | What It Rewards | Main Criterion |
| Best Brand / Product Launch | Best brand or product launch | Storytelling, multi-channel execution, brand identity |
| Best Brand Social Media | A recognisable and culturally relevant social presence | Community, tone of voice, cultural relevance |
| Best Partnership / Collaboration | Strategic collaborations between brands or creators | Authenticity, mutual value, cultural impact |
| Best Rebrand | Best rebranding project | Strategic transformation, visual identity, business impact |
| Best ROI: Work that Works | Work with the most effective business results | Clear KPIs, revenue growth, verifiable impact |
| Future Brand Leader | Emerging talent in marketing and branding | Emerging leadership, vision, already notable results |
Best Rebrand
One of the most competitive categories, and one of the most relevant for firms working on brand strategy. It rewards the best rebranding projects that significantly transform a brand’s identity, positioning or perception, with a strong strategic and visual evolution backed by concrete results for the business or for the brand’s relevance.
The entry requires a description of the brand and its starting context, an explanation of the rebranding strategy, a before/after analysis, the development of the new visual identity and new positioning, the storytelling of the change, and the KPIs with the results achieved. Judges assess the clarity of the transformation, the quality of the strategy, the strength of the visual identity and the impact on the brand or the business.
Future Brand Leader
The award’s people category, often underestimated but structurally less competitive than the work categories. It recognises emerging professionals in marketing, branding and communications who stand out for leadership, innovation and a contemporary vision of the industry. As discussed in the article on how to enter awards, categories dedicated to professionals are often the most accessible and least contested route to international visibility.
What Ad Age Judges Look For
The Ad Age Creativity Awards juries are made up of international creative directors, strategists, marketers, producers and creative technologists. They assess every entry across four dimensions, weighted in balance with one another.
The first is creative quality. The work must stand out for its originality, execution and aesthetic impact. But unlike Cannes Lions, this is not the dominant criterion. It is a necessary but not sufficient condition.
The second is effectiveness. KPIs must be concrete, verifiable and placed in context. Creative work without results data does not compete. Judges assessing entries for categories such as Best ROI or Best Body of Work weigh the numbers before the narrative.
The third is innovation. Not aesthetic originality, but the introduction of an approach, a format, a technology or a logic that had not been used in that way before. The Best Use of AI and Tech Innovation of the Year categories measure this criterion explicitly, but it acts as a filter in almost every category.
The fourth is cultural impact. The extent to which the work changed a conversation, introduced a new language or left a mark on the market. This criterion is less formalised than the others, but it is the one that separates entries that win the category from those that make the shortlist.
Calendar and Costs: How to Plan for 2027
Entries for the 2026 edition of the Ad Age Creativity Awards closed on 2 December 2025. For the 2027 edition, Ad Age has historically opened submissions between September and October, with two pricing windows.
Standard Deadline: usually November, with a fee of $575 per category.
Final Deadline: usually early December, with a fee of $750 per category. Additional fees apply after the final deadline.
Entries must have been published or live during the relevant calendar year. Each entry is submitted individually by category. The same project can be entered in several categories at once, with a separate fee for each entry. The full calendar of 2026 deadlines is available in the dedicated article.
How to Build an Ad Age Entry
The strategic description of the work should be built around the why before the what.
The judges already know how campaigns work operationally. They want to understand the reasoning that led to that specific solution in that specific context. A clear strategic brief that sets out the problem, the insight and the creative choice is worth more than a detailed description of the activities carried out.
Results must be numerical, contextualised and verifiable. Anything included in the entry should be treated as potentially public.
In the jury’s eyes, a vague result is the same as no result at all.
The visual materials and the case study video complete the entry.
The video should follow the structure set out in the article on how to build a case study video: open with the core value, then context, strategy, execution, results. No more than three minutes.
The first thirty seconds will determine whether the judge keeps watching.
New Connections (FAQ)
What is the main difference between the Ad Age Creativity Awards and Cannes Lions?
The main difference lies in the relative weight of the criteria. Cannes Lions assesses creativity, strategy and cultural impact, with greater weight on originality of thinking. Ad Age balances creativity and effectiveness more evenly: work with weak KPIs does not compete, regardless of its creative quality. For agencies seeking to build a complete international profile, the two awards complement each other: Cannes for creative reputation, Ad Age for strategic and business credibility.
Which categories are most accessible for mid-sized agencies?
Best B2B Campaign and Best Body of Work for a Single Client are the categories in which mid-sized independent agencies compete on the most equal footing with large international firms. The first because the B2B market rewards the specificity of strategic thinking more than the scale of production. The second because it assesses the continuity and depth of a relationship, which independent agencies often manage better than larger firms. Future Brand Leader is structurally the least competitive category by volume of entries.
Are materials in Italian accepted?
No. All entries must be submitted in English. This includes the strategic description, the results and all the text in the submission. Creative materials (video, images, design) may be in any language if the context requires it, but the entry text must be written in English. As discussed in the article on Italian agencies and international awards, investing in a review by a native speaker costs less than the entry fee and has a significant impact on the perceived quality of the entry.
When is the right time to start preparing the 2027 entry?
Now. The materials for an Ad Age entry, client results, campaign data, testimonials, metrics, should be gathered while the project is under way. Those who start building their entry file in September 2026, when Ad Age opens submissions, end up reconstructing data they should have archived in real time. Those with a documentation system in place today reach the November Standard Deadline with materials already prepared and a structurally stronger entry.
