Wurth Audit

brand strategy
for B2B industrial companies

Industrial companies operating in complex, highly competitive markets often face a common challenge: maintaining consistency between business strategy, brand positioning and organisational structure. In these contexts, the brand is not merely a communication tool, but a genuine strategic infrastructure. A brand strategy audit allows identity, positioning, brand architecture and touchpoint consistency to be analysed in a structured way, providing a solid basis for medium- and long-term decisions. For this reason, the audit is increasingly used as a strategic advisory tool in large industrial companies.

When an industrial company should consider a brand audit

A brand strategy audit becomes particularly relevant when an industrial company faces structural change or growth phases that increase organisational and communication complexity.

In particular, an audit is useful when:
– the company is growing rapidly or its structure is evolving
– it operates across several markets or channels
– it manages a complex product portfolio
– it perceives a gap between its stated strategy and external perception

In these scenarios, an audit helps restore clarity, priorities and internal alignment between brand and business.

Case study: brand strategy audit in the industrial sector

Below, we examine the practical application of a brand strategy audit in an industrial setting, outlining context, approach and areas of intervention through a project developed for [Würth]

Würth Italia

Brand & Digital Presence Strategic Audit

Bliss Agency was engaged to conduct a strategic audit of Würth Italia’s social media presence. The aim was to assess the role of digital channels within the brand system, analyse their consistency with the core business and identify opportunities to strengthen positioning within the group’s international context.

The project took the form of a non-operational Brand & Strategic Advisory engagement, designed to support decisions on the governance and development of the brand over the medium to long term.

Scope of the engagement

This document constitutes a Strategic Brand & Digital Audit aimed at:

Executive Summary

In recent years Würth Italia has built a solid, credible social ecosystem, capable of generating high-quality engagement within its professional target audience and strengthening the brand’s positioning as the technical partner of reference. Current performance shows an active, engaged base, with results above the B2B average in terms of interaction and content consumption. However, the system still has significant room to improve in scalability, organic reach and direct integration with acquisition and commercial conversion objectives. Comparison with more mature Würth markets (Germany and Spain) confirms the existence of growth potential not yet fully realised. This analysis takes a data-driven, comparative approach to assess the effectiveness of digital channels as a business lever and to define priority actions focused on performance, media efficiency and measurable return on investment.

Strategic Context and Rationale for the Analysis

In the Würth business model, the direct relationship with the professional is a critical competitive asset.
Digital channels – and social media in particular – are no longer solely communication tools, but a strategic infrastructure for customer acquisition, education and retention. In this context, social presence plays a functional role in growth: it increases visibility among new professionals, supports technical product education, lowers information barriers to purchase and consolidates loyalty within the active customer base. The aim of the analysis is therefore to assess the effectiveness of the social system not in editorial terms, but as a lever of measurable performance, identifying areas of efficiency, structural gaps and opportunities for scalable value creation. The approach adopted is data-driven, comparative and focused on business outcomes, integrating quantitative metrics, international benchmarks and assessments of the economic impact of media activity.

Digital Performance Snapshot

KPIs & Key Metrics

Würth Italia’s social ecosystem now generates a broad, qualified audience base consistent with its professional target.
The metrics show engagement above the B2B average and a strong capacity for content consumption, with significant differences between platforms in terms of organic reach, scalability and contribution to the sales funnel.

The following snapshot summarises current performance and identifies the main growth drivers and areas of inefficiency in the system.

/03

4.1 Instagram – Strategic Channel Analysis

The Instagram profile of Würth Italia is currently the main engagement asset in the social ecosystem and the most effective channel for building direct relationships with the professional target audience.

The platform combines educational, demonstration and corporate content, generating above-average interaction for the B2B sector and consolidating the brand’s positioning as an authoritative and reliable technical partner.

Instagram therefore plays a strategic role not only in terms of visibility, but as a lever for community building and trust, with a direct impact on the perceived quality of the brand.

Average engagement rate 2.3%

Average interactions/post: 600+

Strategic Role in the System

  • Primary relationship channel with the professional community
  • High rate of qualitative interaction (technical questions, product feedback)
  • Strengthening the brand’s technical credibility
  • Natural entry point to educational content and soft conversion

Operational Evidence

  • Organic performance higher than other channels
  • Tutorial and demonstration content as the main drivers of engagement
  • Active community consistent with the core target (VAT-registered professionals)
  • Good effectiveness of short video formats (reels) in generating incremental reach

Structural Limitations

  • Smaller scale than international benchmarks
  • Follower growth not yet accelerated
  • Conversion to shop/leads not systematised
  • Partial dependence on occasional high-performing content

Strategic Implication

Instagram must evolve from an engagement channel into a structured acquisition platform, integrating organic growth, vertical influencers and direct conversion mechanisms (DM automation, social commerce, performance media).

4.2 Facebook – Strategic Channel Analysis

The Würth Italia Facebook page is the digital presence with the largest user base in absolute terms and serves as an established relationship channel with the longest-standing, most loyal segment of the professional customer base.

Unlike Instagram and TikTok, the platform’s role is not primarily geared towards engagement or discovery, but towards information distribution, sales support and paid reach.

Facebook therefore operates as a channel of continuity and presence, with a more tactical than expansive function within the ecosystem.

Average engagement <1%

Paid content distribution

Strategic Role in the System

  • Large, long-established user base
  • More mature target and regular customers
  • Effective channel for promotions, offers and operational communications
  • Direct support for traffic to the shop and performance campaigns

Operational Evidence

  • Good numerical reach but limited organic interaction
  • Algorithm penalises non-sponsored content
  • Best performance on short demonstration videos and product content
  • Heavy use of advertising to maintain visibility

Structural Limitations

  • Structural dependence on paid media
  • Low qualitative engagement
  • Limited ability to attract new generations of professionals
  • Limited impact on the brand’s innovative positioning

Strategic Implication

Facebook should be managed as a channel for media efficiency and conversion, not as an engagement driver.
The objective is to optimise advertising ROI by maximising targeting, retargeting and performance-oriented campaigns, while keeping investment in purely organic content to a minimum.

4.3 TikTok – Strategic Channel Analysis

TikTok is the channel with the greatest organic growth potential in the Würth Italia digital ecosystem and the main driver of awareness among new generations of professionals and tradespeople.

The platform enables a more immediate, demonstrative language, particularly effective at translating technical expertise into short, practical and highly memorable content.

Its strategic role is not direct conversion, but expanding the market base and reinforcing the brand’s positioning as a modern, accessible player.

Awareness / Top-of-funnel role

Strategic Role in the System

  • First point of contact with a young audience
  • High organic reach without heavy dependence on paid
  • Ability to generate virality and brand discovery
  • Modernisation of brand perception

Operational Evidence

  • Excellent performance on quick demos and “tips & tricks”
  • Short, dynamic native formats
  • Views significantly higher than the follower base
  • Strong ability to reach non-customers

Structural Limitations

  • Indirect commercial conversion
  • Less qualified engagement than Instagram
  • Requires a high level of editorial continuity
  • Difficulty tracking direct ROI

Strategic Implication

TikTok must be managed as a scalable awareness engine, focusing on reach, vertical creators and demonstration content with high viral potential, integrating paid retargeting to turn visibility into traffic and leads.

4.4 YouTube – Strategic Channel Analysis

YouTube is the strongest asset in terms of evergreen content and technical training, operating as a genuine platform for ongoing education for the professional customer.

Unlike the other social channels, the channel’s value lies not in immediate interaction but in depth of viewing, content longevity and the ability to meet information needs through active search.

YouTube therefore acts as an extension of the service and as after-sales support, strengthening technical credibility and reducing operational barriers to using the products.

Education / Loyalty role

Strategic Role in the System

  • Primary asset for technical training and evergreen content
  • Active search channel: reaches professionals at the point of a specific information need
  • Structural support for after-sales and for reducing operational barriers
  • Long-term strengthening of technical credibility, independent of social media algorithms

Operational Evidence

  • 33 million cumulative views as an indicator of established demand for information
  • High average viewing time compared with the other channels in the ecosystem
  • Tutorial and demonstration content as the main driver of organic views
  • Active archive function: content continues to generate value over time without the need for frequent updates

Structural Limitations

  • Low direct interaction and weak community component
  • Subscriber growth not systematised
  • Content production costly in time and resources
  • Weak integration with the other channels in the ecosystem and with commercial touchpoints

Strategic Implication

Strategic Implication YouTube must be managed as infrastructure for education and trust, not as a channel for periodic publishing. The objective is to build a thematic catalogue organised by need and product category, optimised for search, with in-depth pathways that lead progressively towards conversion and loyalty.

International Benchmark – Germany vs Spain vs Italy

The comparison with benchmark markets paints a precise picture. Germany leads on scale with 175,000 followers and an engagement rate of between 1.5% and 2%, operating through an established community and communication geared towards sector leadership. Spain stands at 150,000 followers with similar performance, setting itself apart with an approach more focused on emotional content and showcasing events.
Italy has the lowest follower count in the group, at 86,000, but the highest engagement rate, at 2.3%. Taken in isolation, this figure would seem to indicate a particularly responsive and qualified community.
The problem emerges when these numbers are cross-referenced with conversion data. Despite higher engagement, Italy delivers weaker commercial results than comparable markets. The explanation is structural. Würth Italia built its social presence by chasing platform trends, favouring highly viral formats and content at the expense of communication focused on product and conversion. Germany and Spain did the opposite: less attention to trends, more consistency with the brand’s commercial objectives.
The result was engagement that was high but scattered, generated by content that did attract interaction but failed to create purchase intent.

06. Organic vs Paid

Media Mix Efficiency

The social ecosystem of Würth Italia rests on a hybrid model that combines highly informative organic content with sponsored activity aimed at extending reach and generating commercial traffic. The two drivers follow different but complementary logics: organic content consolidates the relationship with the existing community and reinforces the brand’s technical credibility, while paid media enables scalability, new user acquisition and measurable conversions. Overall effectiveness therefore depends not on content volume, but on the balance and efficiency of the distribution mix.

Role of the two models

Organic – Relationship & Trust

  • Tutorials and educational content
  • High qualitative engagement
  • Direct dialogue with professionals
  • Strengthened brand authority
  • Reach limited to the follower base

Paid – Scale & Performance

  • Reach amplification
  • Targeting by professional segment
  • Traffic to shop / leads
  • Follower growth
  • Lower percentage engagement but greater numerical impact

Strengths – Consolidated Assets

Key Assets

The social ecosystem of Würth Italia rests on solid foundations already aligned with the standards of the leading digital B2B players. The performance observed does not stem from one-off initiatives, but from a structured system that combines technical content, brand consistency and a multi-platform presence. These elements are established assets on which to build the next phase of scaling and performance optimisation.

/07

Gaps – Value Creation Opportunities

Structural Gaps

Despite a solid digital base, the social ecosystem of Würth Italia has yet to realise its full potential in terms of scale, media efficiency and direct business impact. The main issues do not concern content quality or brand positioning — both already competitive — but structural factors linked to distribution, audience growth and integration with the sales funnel. These gaps are high-leverage areas of intervention, with potentially significant returns from the same existing assets.

/08

Strategic Roadmap & Expected Business Impact
