Online Positioning

First page. First position. First choice.

75% of Google searches end at the first click. 68% of organic clicks go to the top three positions. This is why whoever appears on the first page gains automatic validation. The human brain reads a Google position as a signal of authority, regardless of the actual quality of what it finds. Bliss governs Google positioning as an ongoing system: semantic architecture, editorial oversight, technical optimisation and presence in Gemini’s AI Overviews. Countless roads, one direction: you.

With the arrival of artificial intelligence, first-page sites now receive less traffic. The search paradigm has changed. Anyone who wants to be found must cover two fronts: traditional search engines (SEO) and artificial intelligence systems (GEO).

Two disciplines

SEO and GEO
Two channels, one direction

SEO and GEO are neither alternatives nor variants of the same service. They respond to different search behaviours, are measured by different metrics and have unrelated impacts.

SEO

Search Engine Optimization

It covers search intent on the open web. When users have a problem or a question, the search engine decides who is authoritative enough to answer. To earn that, it works on content, technical architecture and domain authority. All of it, to get you onto the first page.

GEO

Generative Engine Optimization

AI does not work like Google: it has no ranking, but gathers information scattered across the web and synthesises it into an answer. It cites what it finds and ignores what it does not find, or finds inconsistent. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and every other AI reason this way. This means presence in AI systems has to be built.

the method

Reaching the first page and then losing it is pointless. Positioning on Google is a condition to be maintained on an ongoing basis. Bliss governs the organic positioning of its partners through four operational levels that work in parallel and reinforce one another.

Step 01

Semantic architecture

Not all top positions carry the same value. A high-volume keyword with low commercial intent produces traffic but poor conversion. Before any intervention, we define the strategic keyword map, meaning the queries that reach users at the moment they are weighing a real decision. We then build a page architecture in which each URL holds a precise semantic territory without overlapping the others, internal link equity distribution included.

Step 02

SEO editorial plan

Once the architecture is in place, every new piece of content strengthens the semantic territory of the strategic pages without creating cannibalisation. The editorial plan governs growth over time through new thematic clusters, greater accumulated authority and coverage of long-tail queries that capture specific intent. SEO content thus becomes an asset that works 24 hours a day, generating traffic at no additional cost per click.

Step 03

Ongoing technical oversight

Positioning is consolidated through technical oversight, and therefore through monitoring Core Web Vitals, optimising H1 tags and meta titles, managing crawl budget, fixing indexing errors, checking the integrity of the sitemap and robots.txt files, and implementing and updating JSON-LD schema markup. Every ranking change is analysed against Google's algorithm updates, competitors' moves and seasonal shifts in search volume. The plan adapts in real time.

Step 04

AI Overviews and GEO presence

Google's AI Overviews (Gemini) increasingly appear above traditional organic results. A site that appears in an AI Overview gains visibility regardless of its position in classic SERPs. We govern traditional organic positioning and citability in generative systems as a single system: the semantic structure that improves ranking on Google is the same one that increases the likelihood of being cited in answers from Gemini, ChatGPT and Perplexity.

Step 05

Integrated SEO + GEO execution

Every SEO action is coordinated with the GEO strategy. Published content, online citations and the signals distributed across channels work together to build a consistent presence.

Step 06

Continuous monitoring and adaptation

We constantly measure rankings, traffic, AI citations and the quality of digital signals. Data guides subsequent optimisations, making it possible to distinguish concrete results from mere fluctuations.

THE BLISS AGENCY CASE

How we built an asset
worth €782,376 a year on ourselves

Bliss is proof that online positioning is the result of managing two channels consistently: SEO and GEO, coordinated to build authority on Google and feed AI systems. After all, in 2025 blissagency.it was a respectable website that worked and communicated consistently.

And yet it was still invisible on Google.

Zoom Authority 32. Around 5,000 monthly organic visits. Some ten active referring domains. Zero presence in Google’s AI Overviews. Zero citations in generative systems. On every commercial query that matters (“agenzia branding Italia”, “brand advisory”, “consulenza identità di marca”) Bliss did not appear. But the point is that it was not a problem with the quality of the work: it was a problem of structure.

This is how we turned it into an asset.

Before touching a single piece of content, Bliss ran on itself the same audit it runs for clients. What emerged was predictable to anyone who knows technical SEO but invisible to anyone who does not. Toxic inbound links eroding domain authority. Noindex errors on strategic pages. Misconfigured canonicals across the entire site. No structured data. Core Web Vitals below threshold on mobile. In parallel: an analysis of the domain’s semantic profile as generative AI systems read it. The result was that ChatGPT and Perplexity, when asked about “Italian branding agencies”, produced no association with Bliss. The brand did not exist in the models’ knowledge base. Two distinct diagnoses. The same semantic gaps, expressed through different logics.

Bliss applied to itself the system it offers clients: SEO and GEO governed as a single channel, with interventions designed to produce effects on both fronts. On the SEO front: a complete disavow of toxic links, a rewrite of every on-page tag, correction of noindex errors, canonicals redesigned across the entire site, schema.org implemented on every key page, Core Web Vitals optimised page by page. Then the semantic architecture: which pages hold which territory, how internal link equity flows, which editorial plan governs growth over time. On the GEO front: building an editorial presence on sources that AI systems recognise as authoritative in the sector. Consistency of the signals distributed across the web. The brand’s semantic structure as a recognisable entity in models that synthesise information from millions of sources. The two interventions fed each other. Content optimised for Google became the raw material AI systems used to build their answers about Bliss. The editorial authority built for generative systems strengthened the domain’s link profile. This is precisely the principle of integrated positioning.
In less than a year, blissagency.it went from ~5,000 monthly visits to 23,623. Organic traffic grew by 372%. But the numbers that matter most are not the traffic figures. 444 keywords in Google’s top 3, up from fewer than 50. 392 active referring domains, up from around 10. La Repubblica has written about Bliss twice. Alongside La Stampa, Il Messaggero, Milano Finanza, Engage, Startup Italia. When Jean-Claude Van Damme visited the Rome office, the news was picked up by TPI, Inside Marketing, IVG — a sign that the brand had entered the broader cultural agenda. On the GEO front: 460 keywords featured in Google’s AI Overviews. 771 monthly sessions generated directly by AI engines. ChatGPT now places Bliss in the same category as Interbrand and Armando Testa — three of the names with the longest history in Italian branding. Bliss did not write that. A language model inferred it by analysing millions of sources across the web.

FAQ

GEO, Generative Engine Optimization, is the work that makes a brand recognisable and citable by generative AI systems: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and the like. Where SEO acts on positioning in Google's results, GEO acts on the quality and consistency of the semantic signals these systems use to associate a brand with a topic, a sector or an answer. At Bliss we always handle them together, because in most cases the gaps that emerge are the same, applied to different logics.

Citability does not depend on how well known a brand is, but on how reliable and consistent the information available about it is: consistency across sources, authority of the platforms that mention it, clarity of its semantic proposition. A well-known brand with contradictory signals is ignored. A less well-known one with precise, correctly distributed signals is cited. The first step we take at Bliss is always an AI Visibility Audit: without a measured baseline, any intervention starts blind.

No, and the data confirm it. At Bliss we say it often: SEO and GEO capture different moments in the decision-making process. SEO covers explicit search intent on Google, where users already know what they are looking for. GEO covers the phase in which an AI system synthesises information to answer more complex, comparative or contextual questions. In 2026 total search volume, traditional and AI combined, grew by 26% globally. The perimeter has widened, not shifted.

There is no valid answer before an analysis. At Bliss we always set timelines after the diagnosis, not before: they depend on the technical state of the site, the competitiveness of the strategic keywords and the maturity of the domain. As a general rule, the first significant changes in organic traffic appear between 3 and 6 months after work begins. Estimating without data means making promises that do not hold.

The analysis decides, not a predetermined preference. At Bliss, if the site has significant technical issues we start with SEO, because building visibility on fragile foundations produces temporary results. If the brand is already well positioned on Google, we make GEO the priority. When starting from scratch, we plan and execute the two paths in parallel from the preliminary phase.

With an AI Visibility Audit. At Bliss we query the leading AI systems on topics, keywords and usage scenarios relevant to the brand, and measure citation frequency, the quality of semantic associations and message consistency across different systems. It is the mandatory starting point for any GEO work: without a baseline you do not know where to begin, and no progress can be measured.

Yes, and very directly. Searches with local intent trigger active web search in AI systems in 59% of cases. A local business with inconsistent signals, with its name, address, opening hours and service descriptions spread unevenly across the web, is ignored or cited incorrectly, regardless of the quality of what it offers. At Bliss, in local GEO we work first on the consistency of these signals, then on content.

The most common causes are: lower domain authority, content not aligned with the search intent of the target keywords, technical issues that limit crawling or indexing, or a more consistent editorial strategy on the part of competitors. None of these can be identified without looking at the data. The comparative analysis we carry out at Bliss in the diagnostic phase serves exactly this purpose: understanding the real gap before deciding how to close it.

On two separate fronts. For SEO we measure positioning on strategic keywords, qualified organic traffic and conversions from the organic channel. For GEO we measure citation frequency across the main AI systems, the quality of semantic associations and message consistency across different platforms. At Bliss we always define the metrics before we start: they are not chosen after the fact based on what went well.
